Last time at the National Stadium!

On September 27th 2015, the finishers of Warsaw Mararthon will be able to cross the finish line at the National Stadium for the last time. Next year, finish line will return to the streets of the city.

A large part of Polish runners has already crossed finish line at the National Stadium, where the finish line of Wasaw Marathon was located for the first time in 2012.  This was the first running event in our country which used the stadium in this way. This year, the 37th edition of the race, however, will be the last one ending at this arena. Edition number 38, which is scheduled for September 25th  2016, will end outside the stadium. All those who dream of becoming a hero of the National Stadium, have their last chance in a couple of weeks.

“Finish at the stadium is a great experience and this fact is indisputable. Yet we made decision that this year’s marathon will be the last one finishing at the National Stadium” – says Marek Tronina, President of Warsaw Marathon Foundation. – There are several reasons. First of all – it is getting more difficult to reconcile the magnitude of the event with the limitations of the arena. To put it simply – we cannot fit in it anymore and it is getting hard to combine there all the events of the weekend of Warsaw Marathon. Secondly – because of large number of events taking place at the Stadium it is difficult to reconcile the interests of the Warsaw Marathon with the interests of other users of the arena, which unfortunately could reflect in the quality of the event. That is why this year we want to give runners last opportunity to finish at the National Stadium. Next year finish line will be located in a  different location: surely spectacular and worthy of our event

Get to know the course of 37th PZU Warsaw Marathon

Six districts, two bridges and two banks of the Vistula River joined together in one, unique course. It is fresh, surprising and picturesque. And most of all – the course really connects two banks of the Vistula. The river will accompany us for most of the route. Get to know the course of 37th PZU Warsaw Marathon.

The new route of the 37th PZU Warsaw Marathon shows what is most interesting in the capital city of Poland. It runs through such parts of Warsaw as Praga Północ and Saska Kępa that are rarely included in city races. Runners will also run through the gates of the Warsaw Citadel, that on a daily basis is a closed military area. The route leads also through places known from previous editions of the event like Łazienki Park and legendary tunnel. What is more, the course of this year’s edition is also very “green”: runners will run through five parks: Skaryszewski Park, Agrykola Park, Łazienki Park, Kępa Potocka Park and Praski Park. Now that’s a real new one!
– Whether the route of the marathon is fast, slow, difficult or easy is for most of the runners of secondary importance. Marathon is a marathon: it is always a challenge to run a specific distance, which in case of a marathon
is a great challenge itself – says Marek Tronina, the CEO of the Warsaw Marathon Foundation. – In this case, all the marathon runners for sure will appreciate the fact that they will be able to run through places that they have not been able to run through in any other race before. The Warsaw Marathon Foundation has set new standards for the routes
of the races in Warsaw for years. During previous editions of the Warsaw Marathon participants could for the first time start from the Poniatowski Bridge and run through such places as: Marszałkowska street, Łazienki Park,
nature reserve Natolin, district Ursynów, Puławska street. The new route sets new standards, it is the first course that connects two sides of Warsaw in such a spectacular way. Now that’s a real new course in Warsaw. See for yourself.
