DAF Trucks to support marathon logistics

Whether it is a debut or a PB-level effort, each marathon is a special experience for the runner. For the organisers it’s a huge challenge, also logistical one. In that respect, the 45th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon will be supported by DAF Trucks Polska again. The company, in cooperation with Paccar Financial, will provide a fleet of Dutch brand tractor units and semi-trailers, as the base for runners’ deposits.

Last year’s 44th Warsaw Marathon and companion runs were completed by over 7,000 runners. This year, letting the participants focus on the sports challenge, DAF Trucks Polska and Paccar Financial will provide 15 sets consisting of DAF tractor units and semi-trailers. Before the start of the competition, runners will be able to leave deposits there, and after the competition – collect them from volunteers. DAF Trucks Polska is providing such service for the Warsaw Marathon and accompanying runs for the third time.

In addition to the logistics facilities, DAF Trucks Polska and PACCAR Financial will also prepare a stand located next to the Kinoteka in the Palace of Culture, with lots of attractions both for runners and for truck fans, including the opportunity to see one of the latest DAF trucks up close.

5,000 on the start list

5,000 people on the start list of the jubilee 45th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon. Running is back in great style – The Big Race coming on September 24!

Running is back in great style! More than a month before the jubilee 45th edition of the Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon, there are over 5,000 athletes on the start list! Registration is under way for all runs held as part of the Marathon Weekend!

On September 24, Warsaw will turn into the running capital of Europe – exciting TEAM UP! Europe and TEAM UP! Everyone, the finale of the #RunningGood charity campaign, a new, fast course and a stunning start and finish area for all races – Emilii Plater Street. The opportunity to finish at the foot of the Palace of Culture and Science may not happen again!

The Big Race – tradition unbroken since 1979

The Warsaw Marathon – the largest sports event in Poland, is a unique run. Every year since 1979 its start line brings together thousands of participants sharing one goal and a common passion. Each edition of the Marathon is unique, and for every runner, the start is a great celebration and the climax of a long preparatory training period.

The royal distance, the accompanying runs, EXPO as well as the bustling finish area provide chances to follow the development of Poles’ passion for sports and admire the general growth of running. The opportunity to start at the very centre of the capital and run through the city’s biggest streets is a feast for runners. Such a blockbuster event is also a great chance to promote the city’s tourist attractions.

Breathtaking start/finish location and brand new courses

By tradition, the race office will be hosted by the Palace of Culture and Science. The start and finish lines mark a novelty – both straight on the central Emilii Plater street. The finish area with special stalls and attractions is being designed at Plac Defilad – that’s what brings the centre of emotions to the very heart of Warsaw.

This year, in addition to the stunning central location of the finish line, the runners will also enjoy the completely new courses – both the royal distance (including the relay race), and the accompanying Nice To Fit You Warsaw 10k, got new routes. The courses are both fast and spectacular – the marathon runs through as many as six districts of the capital, including the picturesque Radiowo. Runners will also move along the main Warsaw artery, Aleje Jerozolimskie, in both races.

Little Big Race

This year, for the first time in history, the youngest runners will start in the very centre of Warsaw. The Nationale-Nederlanden Mini Marathon will take place on Saturday, September 23, right on the spot from where adults will set off the next day. Registration for the event for children and youth is on, with nearly 300 participants on the list!

– Our involvement in the 45th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon is supported by the idea of #długodystansZDROWIA. Caring for one’s health is a marathon, not a sprint race, which is why healthy lifestyles and physical activity should also be promoted among children. The Nationale-Nederlanden Mini Marathon is a great opportunity to show children the beauty of sport and to spend special family moments in an active and interesting way says Marta Maszewska-Danielewicz, director of marketing communications and of the Nationale-Nederlanden brand.

The Mini Marathon is divided into age categories, with a different distance for each. The youngest – children up to the age of three, can take part with a guardian. The upper age limit is 16 years. Everyone will receive special medals at the finish line, and winners’ cups will be awarded to the best ones in each category. The route will be closed to car traffic, and the youngsters will enjoy a unique street run setting.

Nice To Fit You Warsaw 10k and Bridgestone Marathon Relay

In addition to the kids’ races and to the royal distance for adults, the last weekend of September will also see a 10 km run – Nice To Fit You Warsaw 10k – and the Bridgestone Marathon Relay. Therefore, each running buff will have a chance to start – if the marathon is still too much of a challenge, it is worth considering a shorter distance and give yourself a chance to celebrate the jubilee 45th edition of the Warsaw Marathon as part of a huge field.

The big return of running – start lists are filling up

All this year’s street races taking place in Warsaw – starting with the 17th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Half Marathon – have recorded an increase in popular interest. At the moment, there are over 5,000 people on the start list of the Big Race – almost 2,000 more than in the same period of 2022. Nice To Fit You Warsaw 10k, in turn, is already booked by almost 2,000 runners, which is also an impressive number.

We’re coming back for good – the fashion for running is back! Poles practice sport, enjoy it, understand it – they cheer, engage in volunteering work and more and more often take part in competitions. Setting your own goals to achieve, planned training and simply a healthy lifestyle – all that is in our brand’s DNA says Marek Tronina, director of the “Warsaw Marathon” Foundation. – I am glad that we can observe the emotions of amateur runners and the development of the whole industry. Although there is still a bit to go before we reach the pre-pandemic results, one can now safely say that the popularity of running is back. Health and active lifestyle are in fashion again, as a crucial part of our lives.

#RunningGood – a new charity on board!

The largest running charity event in Poland allows you to do good things by taking part in the competition. Running and helping is the domain of almost six hundred participants – that’s how many runners registered for the event via the charity track. In total, they have already collected a remarkable amount of almost PLN 200,000, which will be credited to several NGO accounts. The fundraiser will go on till October 4.

The campaign was recently joined by “Faces of Depression” Foundation. The funds collected will be used for a program of free, remote psychological and psychiatric help for children and youth, unique on a national scale.

– I am very happy that the “Faces of Depression” joins the group of project beneficiaries. Depression, especially among young people, is so common. We hardly talk enough about mental health problems, says Magda Skrocka, deputy director at the Warsaw Marathon Foundation. – I believe that together we will contribute to improving awareness and helping those in need. We also have many common educational ideas that will soon be disclosed – she adds.

Welcome to the Big Race – volunteering, cheering, running!

Registration for all races is open. Everyone will find something for themselves. And for those who are not yet ready to start: you are welcome to actively join us as a volunteer. We invite Varsovians and all the athletes’ relatives to cheer – every person cheering along the route is a huge motivator for runners.

Let’s be together and experience those special emotions. A street race is a social event, not just a sporting one. Let’s give ourselves a chance to take part in something unique, let’s feel this difference and get a boost for action in the coming weeks – adds Magda Skrocka, deputy director of the “Warsaw Marathon” Foundation.

TEAM UP! Everyone – marathon team event for amateur runners

The “Warsaw Marathon” Foundation opens the new amateur teams contest as part of the 45th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon. TEAM UP! Everyone – the mass equivalent of professional team competition – is an offer for running fans from all over Europe.

This year’s edition of the marathon event in the Polish capital is unique for several reasons. One of the reasons is being announced today. It’s all about TEAM UP! Everyone – a teams contest different than before, exceptionally motivating for runners and fans.

The 45th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon gathers a growing number of participants from all over Poland, as well as from other European countries. Marathoners need an event that will show the most attractive sides of long-distance running. It will emphasize the emotions surrounding great races – no less than in team games or in Formula 1.

The new shape of the teams ranking

Team classification has been present at many marathons in Poland and around the world for years. Often, however, its potential was not fully realised. The individual ranking – that was the place for records, valuable prizes and high emotions – as a result, only individual competitors usually used to strive for the best times. The spirit of team struggle and cooperation, well known from many sports disciplines, was not properly reflected in street running.

This year, the “Warsaw Marathon” Foundation is opening two projects devised to change that landscape. TEAM UP! Europe is a competition of professional, specially invited marathon teams (prize pool: EUR 60,000). TEAM UP! Everyone is the equivalent addressed to amateurs from all over Europe. The only conditions for the team to start are the age of 18 and acceptance of the simple rules of the competition.

– For years, we have been looking for ways that will attract new runners, and at the same time enable the use of the key phenomenon in sport, which is the “team spirit”: the feeling of fighting and cooperation as a team – says Marek Tronina, director of the “Warsaw Marathon” Foundation. – We also want to increasingly highlight the outstanding potential of Warsaw – a modern, European city that cares about excellent conditions for sports and fitness. We want to show what world-class races can look like.

TEAM UP! – and create your team. Anyone can fight like pros

The prizes in the professional team competition are impressive – it’s €20,000 (for the winning team), followed by €12,000, €9,000, €6,000, and €5,000. But that’s not the end. At least sixth place in the TEAM UP! Europe is reserved for the best team of amateur runners. Prize No. 6 (€4,000) or higher (if the best amateurs score better than one of the professional teams) will go to the fastest team in TEAM UP! Everyone. The division of prizes between team members is always decided by the captain (or, in the case of professionals, the manager).

The new contest heralds some previously unknown marathon emotions. The best amateurs will no longer just run for pure fun, but to join the running elite in the symbolic and practical sense. And we will all be watching a race with no scripted outcomes. A competition where each team member must give their best in the last kilometres, because the result of the entire crew may depend on each second.

Transparent rules

The professional teams were announced in July. Today marks the start of registration for TEAM UP! Everyone. Anyone can be the creator and captain of a marathon team. The regulations only require the fulfilment of a few conditions. Adult participants must form teams with representatives of both genders (at least one woman and at least one man). There is no requirement for any sports licenses, while those teams who are interested in entering the top six still have to meet the European citizenship requirement, just like the professionals from TEAM UP! Europe (each participant must have a European Athletics member country passport).

New course and new opportunities – Warsaw is special for runners!

It is worth noting that the competition takes place on a new, very fast route. The 45th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon features a new loop that combines special visual attractions and a new, flat profile – from the point of view of the fastest athletes, as well as from the perspective of amateurs who want to experience an attractive adventure, Warsaw offers extremely friendly conditions this year.

Another novelty is the start and finish in the immediate city center – right outside the Palace of Culture and Science. Such placing makes it easier for many people to reach the start, but also shows special venues for the country and city history to competitors, their fans and tourists. The organizers traditionally invite runners at the last weekend of September. The event is accompanied by an Expo exhibition with industry special events, as well as accompanying runs – Nice to Fit You Warsaw 10k, Bridgestone Marathon Relay and Nationale-Nederlanden Mini Marathon (children’s runs on September 23).

TEAM UP! Europe – looking for captain of Team 6

The sixth team in the TeamUp! Europe contest – who will complete the field and fight for guaranteed prizes at the 45th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon?

Three weeks ago we presented a new competition format, which – starting this year – becomes part and parcel of the Warsaw Marathon – TEAM UP! Europe. Over the further 3 weeks, we presented five crews competing in the project’s premiere edition. Today it’s time for the last, sixth team to join the line-ups coming from Hungary, Ukraine, Switzerland, Belgium and the international Continental squad.

To recap the basics: TEAM UP! Europe is a clash of four-person teams over the marathon distance, which is not only to make the 42.195 km run more attractive, but also to support the development of runners from Europe. In the premiere edition, the pool of guaranteed prizes is EUR 60,000, of which EUR 20,000 will go to the best team.

Who is the manager of the sixth team?

Managers from all over Europe were invited to submit their teams. Their five line-ups were presented throughout July. The manager of the sixth team – well, that can be yourself! How is that possible? It’s very simple – in this year’s edition of TEAM UP! Europe we have provided space for exactly six teams. As five places are already taken, we decided that the sixth place will go to the best team in the parallel competition TEAM UP! Everyone.

What does that mean in practice?

In a few days, registration for the TEAM UP! Everyone competition opens to amateur runners! Its rules are almost exactly the same as those of the TEAM UP! Europe – you can read them here => https://teamupeurope.eu/en/rules-and-regulations/.

And the key thing – the highest ranked team in the Everyone format, which will be compiled in accordance with the rules of the “pro” format (i.e. entirely of people holding passports of European Athletics member countries) will be additionally classified in the TEAM UP! Europe competition. Including, of course – taking part in the distribution of prizes!

Guaranteed prizes

Should anyone doubt whether it is worth fighting for, we remind you what prizes are waiting for the best teams:

EUR 20,000

EUR 12,000

EUR 9,000

EUR 6,000

EUR 5,000

EUR 4,000

The start of team registration for TEAM UP! Everyone is just days away. Read the rules and FAQ and start building a team that will compete for prizes with teams from all over Europe!

Build your squad and fight for victory!

You can apply for the new competition format only if you have already been assigned a starting number for the 45th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon (this requirement applies to all runners in a team). Such an application does not involve any additional fees and you only need to fill out the form. The team should have a minimum of three and a maximum of four runners, including at least one female and one male runner.

A team can be submitted by one of its members – it will be a running manager (captain). The final result of the team is the sum of the results of three people: the result of the faster man, the result of the faster woman and the better result of the other two, where the basis is not the time, but the score calculated automatically as per World Athletics conversion tables.

Results Calculator: https://caltaf.com/pointscalc/calc.html

That’s the deal – we invite you to the TEAM UP! Everyone. Set off along with professional runners and compete for financial prizes. Show what you’re capable of! Registration opens in August 2023.
