Course overview of the 46th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon and analysis by the Race Director!

Watch the video presenting the route of the 46th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon and read the analysis from the Race Director. Enjoy the screening and reading – see you on September 29th!

Ahead of us are over 42 kilometers through the streets of Warsaw. A centrally located, very fast course, plus the centenary celebration of the Polish marathon – what more could you ask for? Maybe just a handful of information on where your legs will take you on September 29th? Let’s get started!
We begin on Świętokrzyska Street, which has been delighting with its new, green look for several years. To the right, the Palace of Culture and Science – and we’re off! A quick turn onto Marszałkowska, then Romana Dmowskiego Roundabout, and we begin a long, mostly gentle descent towards Grochów. We pass the palm at de Gaulle Roundabout, the National Museum, Poniatowski Bridge, and the PGE National Stadium. After Washington Roundabout, we head onto the avenue named after the first president of the United States. Around the 6th kilometer, we find ourselves at the lowest point of the route.

We cut through the narrow Modrzewiowa Street to Grochowska Street, running for another two and a half kilometers along the main artery of the Praga Południe district. After passing the Powszechny Theatre, we turn left, heading under the railway overpass, finding ourselves in Praga Północ. Here begins a several-kilometer stretch around the PGE National Stadium. It’s still flat, and only when we reach Washington Roundabout again around the 12th kilometer do we face a short climb, which quickly turns into a pleasant descent onto Szczecińskie Waterfront. Ahead of us is a long, scenic section along the Vistula River – all the way to Gdański Bridge.

The toughest part is kilometer 17. Here, a 300-meter climb to the bridge awaits, but the reward for this short effort is a magical view of the Old and New Town seen from the Vistula River. The slightly uphill Słomińskiego Street leads us to the Westfield Arkadia shopping center, which we bypass using the access roads. Watch out for the turn! Once we cross to the other side of Jana Pawła II Avenue, we’ll be in the Powązki district in Warsaw’s Wola. Running alongside Poland’s most famous cemetery, we turn onto Tatarska Street, where we hit the halfway point of the marathon. Then, Jana Odrowąża, Wawrzyszewska, and Obozowa Streets, and we arrive in Koło.

Unlike last year, we won’t run straight to Fort Radiowo but instead turn onto Księcia Janusza Street, arriving in one of Warsaw’s most populous districts – Bemowo. And where there’s Bemowo, there must be Powstańców Śląskich Street, which we reach at the 27th kilometer. On the left – the airport. It’s still flat, and ahead is the well-known Chomiczówka and Joseph Conrad Street.

At exactly the 30th kilometer, we find ourselves in a place we passed last year – on Tomasza Nocznickiego Street. Bielany! That’s the sixth district of the day.

Two kilometers later, after a short climb followed by a descent onto Gen. Maria Wittek Avenue, we enter Marymoncka Street. Now it’s almost a straight path to Wilson Square, passing the Cemetery of Italian Soldiers, the Academy of Physical Education, the Fire Academy, and the pleasing architecture of Juliusza Słowackiego Street.

We’re in Żoliborz. Just past Wilson Square, we are greeted by the second great poet – Adam Mickiewicz, who delights with a unique tree-lined avenue and the prospect of reaching downtown after the moderately challenging overpass near Gdańsk Station. Near the Polonia Stadium, we begin the final climb towards the finish. “Climb” might be too strong of a word, but there is a slight uphill. Magical Krasińskich Square – kilometer 40. Almost there. Miodowa, Senatorska, Moliera, Piłsudski Square with the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Królewska, and a left turn just before the Zachęta gallery. When we turn right at the end of Mazowiecka Street, the sight we’ve been waiting for since the start will greet us – the finish line!

The last 600 meters is a straight, wide stretch, at the end of which the long-awaited reward awaits – unforgettable memories of completing the Marathon of the Century.

Good luck!

Marathon Fan Zone Map – Study it Before the Start! A place for both spectators and runners.

Take a look at the map – the start and finish lines are located on Świętokrzyska Street, and between this street and the Palace of Culture and Science, you’ll find everything important for both spectators and runners on race day.

We remind you that the Marathon Fan Zone will be active for two days – Saturday (28.09) and Sunday (29.09). It’s a place for meeting and discussion, fun, and attractions for both young and old. There will be children’s zones, so feel free to bring the whole family. Here’s a reminder of the course for the 46th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon!

The Warsaw Marathon is not just a celebration for runners, but for the entire city. For many years, participants have been running through the heart of the capital, with the route full of tourist attractions. The absence of vehicle traffic allows runners to enjoy the city from a completely new and exciting perspective. The 46th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon will be no different.

Once again, the Warsaw Marathon will take place right in the city center. Starting from the Palace of Culture and Science, runners will race along Aleje Jerozolimskie, passing the iconic de Gaulle roundabout with its famous palm tree. They will then head towards Poniatowski Bridge and cross the Vistula River. The route will lead through the Waszyngton roundabout towards Modrzewiowa Street. On the way, runners will pass close to the PGE National Stadium, then cross back to the left bank of Warsaw via Gdański Bridge, heading north.

Participants will run by the Powązki area, then through the rapidly developing Wola district along Obozowa and Księcia Janusza streets, before continuing onto Bemowo and Bielany.

The final kilometers of the course will take runners through Królewska and Mazowiecka streets, featuring historic buildings and modern office towers. The finish line and the Marathon Fan Zone by the Palace of Culture and Science will be a grand conclusion to this prestigious race.

“Perhaps never in its forty-six-year history has the Warsaw Marathon had such a fast and extraordinary route. With the start and finish at the Palace of Culture, two bridges, seven districts, and minimal uphill sections and challenging parts, it’s an ideal course,” commented Marek Tronina, the race director and president of the Warsaw Marathon Foundation. “Are you a running tourist wanting to see downtown, the Vistula River, the National Stadium, the stunning Old Town panorama, and experience the incredible support from the residents of Bemowo, Chomiczówka, or Bielany? Or maybe you’re aiming for a personal best? Warsaw’s route is one any city would envy!”

Qualifications for the Abbott WMM MTT Age Group World Championship 2025

The 46th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon will once again participate in the Abbott World Marathon Majors Marathon Tours & Travel Age Group World Championship as a qualifying event.

We would like to remind you that the „Warsaw Marathon” Foundation and Abbott World Marathon Majors Marathon Tours & Travel are collaborating within the Age Group World Rankings. This year’s marathon is once again a qualifying stage for the 7th edition of Abbott World Marathon Majors Marathon Tours & Travel Age Group World Championship for runners aged 40+.

The AbbottWMM MTT Age Group World Rankings comprise over 370 qualifying races in which athletes in nine separate age groups can compete in marathons across the world to earn a global ranking.

Dawna Stone, Abbott World Marathon Majors CEO said: “The AbbottWMM Marathon Tours & Travel Age Group World Rankings continue to grow and welcome new races into the qualifying process every year. The geographical spread of runners and races shows the appetite for high level competition across all ages and an invite to the World Championships is becoming a much sought-after goal.”

The athletes will compete in age group categories: 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80+.  The official website: www.Abbottwmm.com

How it works?

Athletes are ranked according to their single fastest time in a qualifying event. Every athlete will appear in the rankings. Top-ranked athletes in each age group at the end of the 2024 season will be invited to the 2025 AbbottWMM MTT Age Group World Championships within the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon.

Any athlete achieving the Qualifying Time for their age group will receive a notification that they have qualified for an invite to the 2025 AbbottWMM MTT Age Group World Championships. In order to receive an invitation, runners must be registered at AbbottWMM.com.

There will be a total of 2,500 places available for the 2025 World Championship. Qualifiers from the rankings will be determined at the beginning of 2025 when they will be asked to indicate their interest in entering the Championship.

In the unlikely event that an age group is oversubscribed, the runners with the fastest qualifying times in their age group will have first right of refusal along with qualified runners from the 2024 AbbottWMM Global Marathon events.

Full details of this registration process will be communicated in early 2025.

They will compete for victory both individually and in TEAM UP! Europe!

September 29th is just around the corner! The countdown to the race is on, and the 46th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon promises to be a celebration for runners, fans, and all of Warsaw. For some, achieving their dream of conquering the marathon is about sightseeing along the course, while others will be chasing personal bests. What can we expect from the competition among the fastest runners? Who will cross the finish line first? Which national team will take home the victory in the team competition? Last year’s champions, Levente Szemerei and Ewa Jagielska, are back on the start list, along with Mateusz Kaczor, Andrzej Rogiewicz, Izabela Paszkiewicz, and Maryna Nemchenko.

Individual Competition

Last year, at the 45th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon, Hungary’s Levente Szemerei and Poland’s Ewa Jagielska claimed the individual titles. This year, they’re both set to compete again!

Among the men, there are several potential favorites. In addition to the defending champion from Hungary, the list includes Dorian Boulvin from Belgium, winner of the Warsaw Half Marathon in March (and making his marathon debut), Poland’s Mateusz Kaczor, runner-up in the spring half marathon, Ukraine’s Mykola Nyzhnyk, and the surprising Polish half-marathon silver medalist Andrzej Rogiewicz. Also in the mix is Yonas Kinde, born in Ethiopia and now representing Luxembourg, who competed in the Rio Olympics as part of the Refugee Olympic Team. Last year’s third-place finisher, Vitaliy Shafar, is also expected to be among the lead pack. Earlier this year, Mateusz Kaczor might have been considered the favorite, but his slightly underwhelming performance at the September Praga Half Marathon (finishing in 1:05) leaves the men’s competition wide open.

On paper, Poland’s Izabela Paszkiewicz, with a personal best of 2:27:41, is the favorite among the women. However, there’s a caveat—three weeks before the marathon, her half marathon time in a warm-up race was 1:16. Does this mean anything? Maybe, maybe not. A control race in 28°C heat, in the middle of intense training, might just be a strategic move. Ukraine’s Olga Nyzhnyk and Maryna Nemchenko, both of whom made the podium last year, will be looking to challenge her. However, it was Ewa Jagielska who outran them both last year, showcasing her rapid progress.

Could Jagielska pull off another sensational win? Why not? It’s a tactical race without pacemakers, so experience will be a key factor. If the pace isn’t grueling from the start, we can’t rule out Belgium’s Karen Van Proeyen joining the leading group. While we don’t know for sure who will win, we do know it’s going to be an exciting race!

TEAM UP! Europe – Team Competition

Last year saw the debut of a new sporting format at the Warsaw Marathon – TEAM UP! Europe. In this competition, Ukraine took home the victory as the best team.

To recap the rules: the final team result is based on the combined time of one male and one female runner. This year, we have thirteen national teams representing nine countries at the start line. The top contenders for victory seem to be:

– Poland (Mateusz Kaczor/Izabela Paszkiewicz),
– Belgium (Dorian Boulvin/Karen Van Proeyen),
– Ukraine (Maryna Nemchenko/Vitaliy Shafar and the married duo Mykola Nyzhnyk/Olga Nyzhnyk).

A podium finish for Germany (Ihlow/Beese), Hungary (Szemerei/Kovacs-Garami), or Poland’s second team (Przybyła/Jagielska) would be a surprise, while any of the other six teams making it would be considered an upset.

But of course, this is sport, and anything can happen!

Starting list:

– Ukraine 1: Mykola Nyzhnyk, Olga Nyzhnyk
– Ukraine 2: Vitaliy Shafar, Maryna Nemchenko
– Poland 1: Adrian Przybyła, Ewa Jagielska
– Poland 2: Mateusz Kaczor, Izabela Paszkiewicz
– Poland 3: Krzysztof Gosiewski, Dominika Stelmach
– Hungary 1: Levente Szemerei, Katalin Kovacs-Garami
– Hungary 2: Peter Jenkei, Zsofia Erdelyi
– Belgium: Dorian Boulvin, Karen Van Proeyen
– Finland: Aki Nummela, Mari Ulkuniemi
– Czech Republic: Michal Majoros, Ondrej Fejfar, Petra Pastorova
– Luxembourg: Yonas Kinde, Shirley Kap
– Germany: Nic Ihlow, Florentine Beese

Individual runners without a team:
– Andrzej Rogiewicz (Poland)
